How to Start Acrylic Painting With Confidence

When decideing on how to start acrylic painting first you necessitate to determine if you want to attempt this medium or one of the others accessible. It is too early to know if it is the right medium foryou. Only time and practice of the paints will establish that.

Some rules of thumb for determining and questions to ask yourself are: Do you like oils? Do you like watercolors? If yes then acrylics can look and behave similar to both these mediums. Are you close to other people when you use paints? Oils smell. You can get things that smell less, only it is a problem that needs to be considered. Have you somewhere for your art to remain while drying? Oils can take forever to dry, acrylics do not. Do you prefer precise art or flexibility. Watercolor can be awkward to control, this can be its charm but also a pain in the rear! Do you want to paint on odd materials? Acrylics are more flexible as to what you can paint on.

Before you commit to spending out on equipment and paint research what you need. Borrow or buy books or DVDs on acrylic painting for beginners or something similar. If you can, get a variety from your local library. Discover more on what the paint does, the types of paint and brushes and painting canvases and pads necessary for your course.

See if you can get someone that already paints to give you a go with the paints. If not book a one day workshop in your area to give a better idea of what to expect. Check though that they provide the paints as not all workshops do.

After your research is finished obtain equipment and paints to begin. If you are not on a budget no problem, nonetheless if you are be careful of what you decide to purchase. Do not necessarily get the cheapest paints around as this can be false economy where painting is involved. Cheap paints do not look so good. Worse still they usually dry out quickly! Which with acrylics is very fast and can prevent you from painting anything. Even if you get a stay wet palette some paints just do not stay wet long enough to apply especially if you live somewhere hot.

Brushes are a very individual choice for an artist. Start with basic acrylic ones then branch out as you decide what styles types of pictures and techniques you favor.

Find a tutor or course

Getting a tutor or course may depend where you are living in the world and also where you are in the country. You may live near local adult education centers. These are a great way for some individuals to start learning their chosen discipline. If not you can always try online courses and learn this way. You may prefer it anyways as it will fit in with your already busy schedule.

The most important thing when learning how to start acrylic painting is to remember to have fun and to play with the paints. Love what you do and you will be painting in no time.
