How to Turn a Door into an Easel
Artist easels can be really expensive, especially when they are made of wood. If you like to express yourself artistically and but don’t have the supplies, don’t fret! If you have an extra door laying around, or if you simply detach an unwanted closet door, you can make your very own homemade easel. Try it out with these simple instructions.
1. First, you want to figure out which door you can use and where exactly you want your canvas to sit. This will most likely be at eye level.
2. Then you will want to nail one or two nails through the door at eye level. This all depends on whether you use large or smaller canvases when painting. If your nails don’t go through because some doors are covered in non-wood finishes, you can use an electric powered drill. This will help you drill holes and screw in screws faster and more efficiently.
3. Do the same thing for the shelf that will be below. Make sure its at the desired level, a place where you will put your paints and your water container. You can make your own or purchase small shelves from your local hardware store.
4. When your shelf has been successfully installed, you’re done! It’s time to give it a try.
5. If you do not wish to put holes or nails into your beautiful wooden door, than something such as door hangers will work just fine. Just place one or two over your door and make sure your canvas can sturdily hang on the hook. You can also do without the shelf and simply pull up a nearby end table.
It’s as easy as that. You can turn any door into an easel with a few inexpensive tools and a lot of brain power. Choose a door that you don’t particularly love and you will end up with the best painting easel you could ever ask for.
