Understanding Modern Art – American Color Field Painting
Time and again, a female resident from Bridgewater has put the marvelous beauty of Shenandoah Valley on canvas. Painting nature is not the only reason this artist has been carrying around easel and oils to mountains and cornfields. She says that she can put the color in any old way she wants to, explaining her use of the clippings, many of which are black and white. She further says that by clipping the pictures of animals and objects she could later use them to complete a bigger scenic picture. While telling that the huge mural stretching 15 by 4 ft on her family room is a product of this hobby of hers, she holds up the worn out newspaper with two millstones in it. The artist makes it clear that the mural on the wall is the result of incorporating all her photograph detailing techniques, which she also uses for weather board buildings, farm crops and equipment, and wood land animal paintings. Her plans are to start working on another painting, this time with a snow scene. Snow is far easier than anything else because it goes fast. However, she keeps only about three paintings hung at home: the mural and two other smaller scenes. She said that a large majority of her paintings have either been given away or sold. When she was painting the large mural, her mind was telling her something was missing. She even sand papered the painting off when she was three quarters finished because the children didn’t like tithe painting shows fall’s bright foliage in rusts, reds and gold’s and perfectly fits the rustic family room. The artist chose to keep the place as it is, and not add anymore pictures which will be most likely ignored anyway; she chose to direct the people’s attention on the mural, which tells how much she loves painting.
