- When taking care of wool carpets, the first of the tips is do not clean it with hot water. Wool reacts badly to very hot water so it is important that you should never use hot water in cleaning it. Water that has been heated to more than 150 degrees Fahrenheit should never, ever be used or your carpet will shrink away from your walls.
- Another one of the most important cleaning tips is avoid saturating your carpet. A wool floor covering also has the same properties that make wool great for sweaters. The fibers create numerous air pockets which provide insulation during cold temperatures. Although the air pockets give excellent insulation, they also make the fiber difficult to dry once it gets wet. If, while cleaning, you get the fibers wet, the moisture will become trapped for a long time and it will start to exude an unpleasant odor. If you must use shampoo or water for cleaning, make sure you turn on fans and keep your windows open.
- When cleaning your carpets, you need to remember that the natural fibers are very sensitive and should not be exposed to sunlight directly. The fibers should also not be exposed to harsh and abrasive cleaners. Do not use bleach or brightening agent when cleaning natural fibers like wool. You would do well to use natural cleaners that have a pH balance of 5 to 8.
- One of the best tips for cleaning your natural fiber carpets is to vacuum regularly. Wool is stain and dirt resistant so you can keep it clean and neat for a long time by simply vacuuming. Vacuuming regularly helps to pick up any dirt on the carpets before it has time to sink in and cause damage. A number of flooring experts recommends cleaning by using the vacuum at least once a week.
- Although wool is more stain and dirt resistant than other carpet fibers, it can be impossible to clean once a stain has set. One of the most useful tips to keep it clean is to use stain remover according to the instructions of the manufacturer right away after a stain has been spotted and dry the area thoroughly.
- Cleaning carpets with a beater brush that has been set to the tallest possible carpet setting is one of the best tips you can follow. However, you need to ensure that before you use the beater brush, that it is the best option for the construction of you carpet.
