Sleigh Style Bed Types And Considerations
Most people do not know what a sleigh bed is. This type of bed is very attractive and highly decorative. The headboard and foot board of these beds look like the front and back of a sleigh. They are usually slightly curved towards the outside on the top and bottom. This is why they are called a sleigh.
It is a beautiful addition to any bedroom set. Normally they are relatively plain but some sleigh beds are ornately carved. Which you choose depends on your taste and the style of your bedroom. You do not want to purchase a mismatched sets. A sleigh style bed can come in a variety of sizes and colors.
Popular colors for these beds are dark and light wood, black, white, and red. The wood is ordinarily oak or pine. Pine is lighter but less durable that oak is. It is still very good looking. There are also ones that have been painted. You can get just about any color your desire.
Stores occasionally sell these types of beds unfinished and unpainted. This is a great project for the kids to do when they are setting up their bedroom. You can allow them to paint or stencil what they want on it. Getting the kids involved is a wonderful way to bring a family together.
These types of beds come in all of the standard sizes. There is the queen sleigh bed, king sleigh style bed, and all the sizes below that. Most popular is the queen and full beds. The frame of the actual bed can fit any normal mattress and are often designed to take different types. When you are purchasing one make sure to ask what type of mattress it is meant for and whether or not the mattress comes with it.
When you are considering a sleigh style bed you want to make sure that the bed is solid and durable. Some companies will try to and use press board for their beds. This may be cheaper but is considerably less hardy than solid wood. It also does not stand up to wear and tear like solid wood does.
