Give Your Walls A Design Makeover
If you are one of those people who can not stand seeing a unadorned wall in the home, the tips which follow are just perfect for you . The majority of us probably agree that while it is nice to have some clean, bare surfaces around the home, there are some walls and other little areas – like an alcove in the living room for example – which are really in need of sometype of decoration, as otherwise something just seems to be missing. So when you are turning your attention to ways to freshen up your lounge, dining room or bedroom walls, what is the best choice ? Well, to start off with you need to make up your mind whether you are simply going to paint the walls perhaps in a neutral shade meaning you would end up with a blank canvas to work on. The other choice is to use wallpaper on the walls. There are plenty of designs and styles to pick from, from the plain, to the much more ornate “designer” ranges. The one thing to consider if this is what you want to do is that if you pick a particularly “busy” style of paper, you may find that any paintings or other things you later hang on the wall are somewhat lost.
Another amazing way to add a new dimension to the decor of your walls is to get them stencilled by a professional artist or interior designer. This effect works particularly well in a larger period home or in any large room because the bigger space allow the interior designer more options to create something unique. But be warned – while creating a unique piece of artwork on your walls is fantastic, you do inevitably have to contract a professional designer to take care of it for you, and it can be an expensive exercise. However, doing things this way means you will end up with a unique wall finish which no one else will have. You can even embellish the chosen design in a myriad of different ways. For example, for to give the finished result a truly unique touch your interior designer could highlight parts of the stencil or wall art in gold leaf. If you are looking for something simpler, everyone has their favourites, but for many there is nothing better than hanging pictures, photos of the family and friends, posters or just about anything else you fancy. Maybe it is only a simple print you bought on holiday or you received as a present, it’s always an option until you find exactly what you’re looking for . But be careful! Its not simply making a decision about what you are going to hang on your walls that counts, but where and how to hang it. Naturally you should have a good think about exactly what you’re going to put on a wall and where it’s going to be placed before you get started with the power drill. A good idea if you are considering hanging a few painting or pictures on a wall is to effectively map them out on the floor before you make a final decision. This is a simple but effective way to give you a good view of just how well – or otherwise – certain pictures, and indeed, picture frames will look side by side . Another useful tip to let you see what your pictures will look like on the wall before making any holes is to cut pieces of brown paper the same size and shape as the picture or pictures you are intending to hang up and to stick them on the wall using tape or blu-tak. Shift them around to see which arrangement you prefer and relax – you haven’t created any holes yet! The other thing to consider when trying to decide on the decor for your walls is what exactly you would prefer to do with those little areas which break up the wall surfaces. You know the kind of things – shelves, recesses and alcoves. These recesses are usually quite small so it is unlikely there will be sufficient space to display pictures or paintings, but you can still add a decorative flourish to these areas with a number of accessories. Why not place a few family photos in a selection of photo frames on a shelf or in an alcove? Alternatively , you could place some lovely candles, like the ones made by Yankee candles or True Grace candles there, or even a few candle sticks, with no need for any other embellishment. Another good idea when it comes to lighting is to place a single ornate lamp in a recess. When it is lit up it will give your room a subtle, diffused glow which will show your wall decorations up to best effect .
