Spain’s Architectural Expansion Throughout the Centuries
History leaves its marks in many unusual manner; it can leave its mark on a nation’s language, arts, and most notably in its architecture. The meaning of olden times is something that the Spanish government understands as an essential part of their national distinctiveness; thus, a lot of effort goes into the preservation of historic attractions and architectural structures. This isn’t exactly surprising, given the beauty that the varied architectural structures promote Spain’s landscape.
As a first time tourist in Spain, it may be somewhat of a disheartening task to find your way around and to discover all of the amazing architectural structures on your own. If you’re visiting Spain for the first time, you’ll be happy to know that there are a lot of important information about the country available online, and most of it can be had for free. Certainly, it could be fun to get lost in Spain, only if you know how to ask people for directions; it’s also important that you know some fundamental Spanish phrases and sentences so that you can stop and ask locals for directions, just in case you really can’t find your route back to your hotel. Rocket Spanish Download can help you learn the Spanish language as it employs various study methods for a very effective learning experience.
You’ll be startled that there are still a lot of prehistoric structures that are preserved in Spain, especially in areas like the Balearic Islands and Avila. Spain’s existing historic structural designs comprise something that dates as far back as the Bronze Age; the structures in the Balearic Islands are probably the best-preserved structures descriptive of that time. Structures in this place are mostly made up of tombs and burial sites with different geometric shapes; there are also similar structures in the area which still exist and are still well-preserved, and they are used as defensive structures much like watch towers.
For example, during the time when Rome was conquering nations left and right and was hell bent on invading the world, of course the architectural trends in Spain was greatly affected. Rome’s conquests around Spain led to a change in Spain’s religion, bringing with it a change in the kind of architectural structures being built around Spain. One of the most lasting and well-preserved testaments of Roman influence is the Aqueduct of Segovia which still stands until today.
All seasons pass and so did the era of the great influence of the Roman Empire on Spain, although the marks have already been made and left in the culture of the country. The Cathedral of Avila is an example of this modification to a more Gothic influence in architecture; it still has some traces of Romanesque influences but the French and German influences are more noticeable. The Cathedral of Avila was the foremost of countless Gothic buildings constructed in Spain.
There are other historic structures that can be seen in Spain. It’s quite interesting how much you can understand of a country’s history just by observing the trend of architectural designs around their landscape.
