Buying Crackle Finish
You will find a number of people who love making new things look antique. Well that’s exactly what painting with crackle finish will do. Use this kind of painting technique to achieve that weathered look. All you will need here are latex satin wall paint, crackle medium, paint brush for latex paint, roller and roller cover, drop cloths, and masking tape.
Apply a base coat of latex paint to your walls, allowing the paint to dry at least overnight. When you are working with crackle paint, a satin finish can make all the difference allowing another shade of paint to become visible. It is possible to find a project that calls for a single application of crackle finish. Never apply the crackle finish at the same time when working on walls. You can use the masking tape to protect certain areas of the piece you will be working on. Here, apply the paint with a brush or roller.
Never roll on crackle finish if you have yet to cut in the edges of the walls. You only need to leave the paint for an hour for it to dry. One word of caution is that you need to apply the top coat of paint as soon as the crackle finish is dried. Do not leave the crackle for a moment sooner after it dries. The top coat will be made out of latex satin paint and it can be applied in multiple ways.
One by using a natural sea sponge, which gives you smaller random hairline cracks, or by using a paint brush that will give much bigger cracks that generally flow in the direction you brush. In terms of wall painting projects, consider using a brush. Actually, this kind of paint job is rather challenging.
At one end of the wall, start applying a coat of the crackle. One or more applications of paint after the crackle is applied will only cause the cracks to be erased and you will end up with a mess.
When it was our time to work on our wall, we applied the paint in long even strokes and worked it from top to bottom. When we painted the walls, we started at one corner and moved to the next area afterwards. We did not have any prior experience in this case.
