What Kind of Equipment is Needed to Paint Your House
There are many different types of paint that are used in the painting of a house. With that said, we know we need paint. What else do we need to do the job and do it right? The brush has been around for all of time and many painters both professional and “do-it-your-selfers” still trust the brush to do the job they want to do. Of course the type and the quality of the brush and the way it’s used determines the out come of the job. 3
If you look at your house or any surface that you want to paint as a canvas that you are going to express your creativity on you will go about this task with more determination than just slapping a coat of paint on a wall. Below you will find a few of the basic painting tools needed to get the job done quickly and efficiently. 3
1. Materials Needed For Painting
When you look at the surface to be painted you will determine the tools best suited for the job. If you have a large area with no divides or openings there are tools to do that the quickest. If you have a smaller surface with many trim areas that will be an alternate color of finish, you may want to use a roller for the main area. The most basic tool for the painting task though is the brush. No mater what the size or the surface configuration, the brush will be hard to beat for an optimal tool. With a larger surface as mentioned above, you will be better prepared to do the job quickly and efficiently if you chose a roller. There are cheap one-time-use rollers that are able to lay paint on the wall but they won’t give you a finish that you will want to show anyone other than your 2 or 3 year old. And even they will know that they could have done a better job with a Crayola. So spend the extra few bucks and get a good tool.
Another tool to consider is the spray gun. This is great for large areas, but you have to be a little more experienced with it to keep the paint going the direction you want and the thickness of the paint to be uniform. A similar tool for smaller areas and pieces is the airbrush. With some practice you can even draw lines with these components, but you have to be experienced to use them efficiently. 2. Cleaning Your Tools
When you decide on the paint that you want to use and go to the paint store to get it don’t forget to pick up some cleaning supplies. After you have painted your room or the outside of your house you know you will need to clean up all of your tools, but you should be prepared to clean up the area in and around what you painted. Oh and don’t forget, you may get a little paint on yourself to.
Because most house type paints are Latex based you will have a easy clean up with water because latex paint is a water base paint. If you have to or want to use oil base paint that takes a different solution to clean up. You can use paint thinner to clean up the splatter areas as well as your tools. It’s a little more of a mess and it’s flammable so use with caution! If you put lotion on your hands and face before you started to paint you should have no problem cleaning up. If you use gloves, of course the cleaning of your hand is easy.
3. Additional Equipment
Unless you are just painting the wanes coating in your dinning room you may have some areas that are not easy to get to, so you’ll need a ladder. There are many types of ladders that you can use to be efficient with. For the normal inside room height of a little less than 8′-0 you can use a 6′-0 ladder to do the walls and ceiling.
