Painting Artist

Inspired By Nature

Drawing horses as much as she loved riding them was what a female artist loved when she was a child. Her career is one which involves painting horses and other subjects of the natural world and what she can thank for it is her early training plus her many years of experience as an artist. Horses, hens, reindeer and especially dogs can be seen in her pastel and watercolor paintings.

At the time when her family moved to the present county from Philadelphia, she was 11. Her father was a commercial artist who painted as a hobby, as are her mother and her sister. Always mentioned by her father was how drawing is real important to an artist. In the structure of the animals she paints, such are evident details. Considering how she loves painting animals, she started using dogs and cats as subjects too. Also in the artist and her husband’s present home other than two dogs is a cat. Another thing she engages in is painting pets for private commissions.

You can say that distinctly standing out in her paintings is light from the bright white of daylight to the darker amber hues of evening. She said she cares a lot about having a sense of light in her paintings. Her preference for watercolor can be associated with this. She finds watercolor to be a series of transparent washes that can go over pieces of paper. Applying the paint gives vibrance to a piece of white paper. Another fashion of creating light applies with the use of oil paint. Revealing light is a matter of painting everything around it.

Watercolors force the artist to think in reverse, to paint around the white. Before adding the light, an artist using oil should first paint in the dark shadows. When it comes to the luminosity in oil paintings, this is the challenge the artist wants to deal with. According to her, something she loves involves the impressionists and she would like some time spent painting in oil. For resources on portrait painting oil check out this site.

Her move to the present location at the countryside from the former town is what inspires her nowadays. She takes pictures of old farmhouses and landscapes in the foothills as she explores the back roads. What she worries about on occasion is when old farmhouses are torn down. She feels almost an urgency to paint some of these old houses to acknowledge them and hopefully protect them. What she adores is the historic architecture.

This is one artist who is also passionate about still life paintings. What she subtly uses are texture and detail rather than painting using realism or a photographic style. The focus for her paintings of pets includes the detail as well as the animal’s facial expressions. Aside from attending a known school of art, she also went to the Maryland institute college of art in Baltimore. She was 25 when she began painting professionally but for much of her career she worked as a nurse. As the years passed, she established her painting reputation in the areas of architectural subjects, florals, portraits, and pets. She does her nursing duties once a week.
