Getting Your Home Ready For The New Arrival
If you are expecting a new baby, you may have some remodeling ahead of you to get the nursery ready. Designing the space can be enjoyable if you keep yourself from stressing out over it. All that looking forward to your little one can be put to good work.
One of the first considerations is whether to wallpaper or not to wallpaper. There are many really cute designs available. But painting is a lot easier to do and easier to change later on down the line. If you want to add some flair, you can stencil in a border. Put up paintings or some wall hangings and you are done.
Next you will need to consider the flooring. Wood looks great but it is a bit cold and easier for small children to fall and hurt themselves. A thick wall-to-wall carpet is probably a better bet. Be sure to get one that is easy to clean, however, as you will be doing a lot of that.
Now that the floors and the walls have been decided on, you will want to think about the furniture. White is a fairly common color for a nursery, but black baby furniture is worth considering. Black goes with all other colors as white does but it stays clean better and is great for either girls or boys.
For sleeping, you might want to consider a convertible crib. This way you can use the same piece of furniture for your child as he or she gets bigger. These types of cribs will convert into a bed when the child is old enough.
You may want to purchase an entire bedroom set at the same time including a dresser and maybe a desk and chair. Once your child is in school, the desk will be needed. If you buy it all at once, you know it will match. A night stand, a bookcase or two and a toy chest are also good items to have.
If you live in a home that is older and becomes drafty, you may want home space heaters. You probably will not want to keep it on all the time. But you can get the room warmed up for baby before bedtime.
Take a weekend afternoon and head to your local home improvement center. You will get plenty of ideas just walking around. Start early and enjoy the process of designing a special place for your baby.
