Number Stencils – 2 Ways to Use Them
Number stencils can be used for all sorts of things. You can use them to paint your address on the curb, you can use them to paint a sign for your favorite football player, or you can use them as a decoration tool.
When you work with a quality stencil supplier, you will have your pick of a giant array of number stencils. You will be able to choose stencils of practically any design that can work on virtually any surface.
When you go buy your number stencils, you will have to choose between these two types:
1. Mylar stencils
Considered to be the “founding father” of stenciling, mylar stencils are the most common type. In fact, you probably even used them when you were a kid! Mylar is a thick plastic sheet. When it’s used to make stencils, the shapes are just cut right into the mylar. That way, all you have to do is lay the mylar on your surface and start painting! And, since mylar is made out of plastic, you can wash it off and use your stencils again and again.
2. Brass stencils
Designed to be sturdier than their mylar counterparts, brass stencils are the strongest stencils you can buy. While brass stencils can be used for arts and crafts projects, they are also ideally suited for more rugged tasks – like painting on asphalt, wood, or concrete.
Brass stencils are tough enough to be used over and over. Plus, they will not warp if you have to store them in a hot garage or attic. So, if you’re looking for stencils that can be used years down the road, opt for brass.
One thing that brass stencils may not be so great for? Kids’ projects. If your kids are into stenciling, mylar can be a much better choice than brass – because brass stencils can have pointy edges that can hurt little fingers if they are handled the wrong way.
And, of course, the right number stencils are nothing without the right ink. Stencil ink comes in two varieties – in a can that you spray on, or in a bottle that you can use a roller to apply. In most cases, either type of stencil ink will work just fine; it’s all a matter of picking one that’s most comfortable for you. And, luckily, virtually all stencil ink is designed to be completely dry in about 15 minutes.
