Create Your Own White-wash Furniture
Whitewash furniture is one of those things that drifts in and out of popularity. It's popularity is currently increasing pretty quickly and this is reflected in the quite steep prices that some people are charging. There are places that you can buy high quality white furniture such as beds and bedside tables for good a good price, but if you want to make your own here is how.
1.First you need to sand down whatever pierce of furniture you wish to whitewash. This can be achieved simply by using a sanding block or an eclectic sander. If the paint is really thick then you may need to strip is chemically.You now need to clean the wood thouroughly to get rid of any dirt of sawdust. Wait for wood to become touch dry
2.You then need to mix together one parts water with two parts white latex paint in a plastic container. You'll need a bowl of clean water to correct any mistakes you make and a 3" brush. Brush the wood following along the line of the grain and use broad sweeping strokes. The paint will soak into the wood so you may need to go over the same patch a number of times.
3.When you have covered the piece completely and whilst it is still damp to the touch, wipe a cloth along the grain until it starts to show through again. One layer will give the wood a lightly stained look and it advised that you repeat the previous steps another 3-4 times to build it up and increase the look of quality. It all depends on your taste though.
4.When you achieve a look that you are happy with, give the wood another light sanding down to expose the grain and and then seal the wood using a satin clear polyurethane. Let it dry, rub it down a little with an abrasive cloth and repeat this process until you get the look you are after. Use this method to create a great white wardrobes, bedside table or even dresser.
